Dr. Azzam Maghazachi

He and his group were the first to identify all chemokine receptors on NK cells and were the first to examine the biological activities of chemokines on these cells. Later, they identified lysophospholipids and oxidized lipids receptors on NK cells and investigated the effects of these lipids. They also discovered a new subset of NK cells that secrete both IL-17 and IFN-g, and designated them as NK17/NK1 cells. Dr. Maghazachi is an expert in cancer immunotherapy field and has developed clinical trials using natural killer cells to treat various cancers.
His research interests are cancer immunology, autoimmune diseases, chemokines, and drug mechanisms of action. Dr. Maghazachi is an editor or editor-in-chief on more than 10 scientific journals in the fields of Immunology, Oncology and Neuroscience. He published more than 100 scientific papers as well as book chapters and ebooks.

She acquired academic research training at the University of Manchester Rheumatic Diseases Centre and was awarded a PhD for leading major research projects and contributing to the understanding of ‘Cortical processing of human arthritic pain using functional neuro-imaging techniques. This research work has been presented in the World Congress of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the British Society of Rheumatology. She has a number of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Prior to moving to Dubai, she worked as a Rheumatologist in the NHS hospital in Northwest regions of UK and has lead clinics for early inflammatory arthritis, Spondyloarthritis and Pregnancy in Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases. She has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound, MRI in Spondyloarthritis, screening for early diagnosis and follow up of inflammatory arthritis. She is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the UK and American College of Rheumatology.
Dr Khan firmly believes in holistic approach to the management of rheumatic conditions that include a thorough education of patient about their condition, informed choices of their treatment along with lifestyle, diet and exercise modifications.

Dr. Noha Elemam

In 2016, Noha joined the Ph.D. program with a full-granted scholarship in Molecular Medicine and Translational Research at the University of Sharjah, along with a dual Ph.D. degree from University of Lübeck, Germany. During the Ph.D., Noha joined the Immuno-Oncology group with Prof. Azzam A. Maghazachi, a well-known distinguished immunologist, the rheumatologist Dr. Suad Hannawi as well as Prof. Jennifer Hundt. She focused on assessing the role of NK cells in cancer and autoimmune diseases, with colorectal cancer and rheumatoid arthritis as models. Currently, Noha is a postdoctoral research associate at the Sharjah Institute for Medical Research at the University of Sharjah. Noha published more than 30 papers in high impact factor journals and delivered many poster and oral presentations in several international and local conferences.

Rajaie Namas, MD, is Clinical Assistant Professor and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in 2017, Dr. Namas served at the University of Michigan as a Clinical Lecturer and was supported by the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. He was then promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Namas received his medical degree from the University of Tripoli, Libya. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, followed by his residency in Internal Medicine at Hurly Medical Center/Michigan State University in Flint, Michigan, US. Dr. Namas completed his fellowship in Rheumatology at the Wayne State University/Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, US.
Dr. Namas is currently active in numerous research projects focused on treatment strategies, measures of outcome, and translational studies of potential laboratory markers of disease activity.
He has multiple publications and awards in the field of Rheumatology, and is a reviewer on multiple peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Namas is a member and fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and American College of Physicians.
